Paavai Institutions and CII Indian Women Network jointly organized a Webminar on “Food Habits & its Impact on Lifestyle Diseases” on 24.05.19, friday at 3.00 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions presided over the function and inaugurated the webminar. The session created awareness about the food habits of the individual and detailed about the different types of diseases. The facilitator is Dr. Yamini Prakash, Chief Dietician at Kauvery Hospitals; Chennai briefed on the food fundamental rudiments like carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins, macro and micro nutrients which is essential for a healthy body. Each diet has varying restrictions on the types and amounts of carbohydrates intake of an individual. She also explained on low carbs and high carb food. Vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains foods are generally healthy. Refined carbs include sugar-sweetened beverages, fruit juices, pastries, white bread, white pasta, polished rice usage should be minimized. She also added that rainbow coloured food items such as carrot, greens, etc., give the essential nutrients. Eggs are perfect proteins since they contain complete, high quality protein. She insisted to consume a balanced diet and advised not to reduce weight by fasting. Weight reduction should be gradual. Faculty members had queries session for half an hour and the doubts were cleared by the dietician. The chairman distributed the pamphlet of the webminar to the faculty members. Many women faculty members from Paavai Institutions participated in the webminar and benefitted.
