PAAVAI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
ANNUAL REPORT (2010-11)

In pursuance of the noble commitment to social development, especially in the field of training women in the teaching arena, the respectable members of the trust of PAAVAI VARAM decided to start a B.Ed., training college for rural students, especially for women students in and around Rasipuram Taluk. This took shape in the year 2004. Ever since the inception of this Paavai College of Education, it has been rendering laudable service in the field of teacher education by admitting graduate students, and training them to be full-fledged teachers, in the real sense. By the uninterrupted help of the Paavai Educational Trust members and the constant guidance and encouragement given by the Chairman and the Correspondent the best of teaching formula given by the Principal and the devoted service of the faculty members lead to achieve good development and to produce excellent 100% results during the past years.

71 women and 29 men candidates are undergoing the B.Ed., course this year in Paavai College of Education. The students of the College of education undertook many activities both in theory and in practical aspects, which are a part of their curriculum. The academic year 2010-2011 commenced on 8th September 2010 was inaugurated by the chairman and as a great gesture of showing due respect to parents, the B.Ed., students performed the padha pooja to their parents who have accompanied them for the inaugural function.

A number of other programmes have been carried on as mentioned below.

The office bearers for the academic year 2010-2011 of the B.Ed., college were selected on 20th September 2010.

All the 100 students were divided into 7 groups to carry out the curricular activities like seminars, symposia, oratorical programmes writing articles etc., and the co-curricular activities like decoration work, hall arrangements during meetings, organising meetings, writing charts and learning the art of making socially useful products etc.,

The students are given the opportunity to talk for 2 minutes, in English or Tamil, on matters of general importance and on textual topics, daily, soon after the prayer, in turns.

All Subject Association inauguration was held on 25.09.2010. The chief guest of the function was Dr. Jothiramakrishna, Prof. and HOD of Madurai Kamarajar University. From then on, cultural programmes are being held every week, in which each group is given a chance to perform cultural activities for one hour, on Wednesdays during the last two periods. The lecturer in charge of each group, guides the students in selection and execution of cultural activities.

On 14th October 2010, Saraswathi pooja was celebrated with usual joy. The students drew the portrait of Goddess Saraswathi in Rangoli. In that function, the students chanted religious hymns and 108 Namavalee while offering flowers and Nevaithyam to Goddess Saraswathi. As a special performance, the students arranged a Golu with dolls on this occasion.

From Oct 18th till Dec 17th, our B.Ed., students were deputed to nearly 25 Government high schools and higher secondary schools for teaching practice to improve their teaching ability as required by the syllabus. They have successfully completed their training with the co-operation of the guide teachers and Headmasters.

The Blood donation camp was conducted on 20th December 2010. Our students also participated in the trekking event as well as in Essay writing, drawing, oratorical, singing and sports competitions arranged for student to commemorate the youth festival.

On 3rd January 2011 The Road Safety week celebrations were held in our campus. Our students participated in the oratorical competition and won the 2nd prize.

On 7th January 2011 the national integration festival was arranged by the paavai institutions in which about 100 schools from Salem and Namakkal Districts participated. Nearly 2000 high school students enthusiastically took part in competitions like oratorical, essay, singing, drawing, poem, quiz, rangoli, and the first three winners were awarded with the prizes. Certificate of participation was given to all the students.

On 20th January 2011, a noteworthy programme, on the title ‘SUCCESS A HABIT’ was organised. The chief guest was the world’s youngest CEO in computer software world, Mr. Suhas Gopinath. Our students attended and were very much benefitted by hearing the lecture of the chief guest.

As a part of our academic programme, seminars were conducted for students in their core subjects. The students themselves prepared and presented papers on topics assigned to them under the guidance of the subject lecturers.

From 14th Feb to 18th Feb, the First Aid Camp was arranged to B.Ed students. Mr.Rajaraman of St. John’s ambulance, Salem, conducted the course and certificate was given to students. The importance of the first aid and some useful demonstrations about the First Aid were given to students through LCD projection.

Achievement motivation camp was conducted to B.Ed students in the class. The n’ach category theories were explained to students. Lectures were given on various topics like Maslow’s Hierarchy theory. The students enthusiastically took part in it.

To improve the writing and speaking skills, English special coaching was conducted to our B.Ed students.

Each student is given a chance to express himself/ herself for two minutes in English in the class on any topic of general importance. Basic grammar and error free writing are also taught to students. Word making game and introduction of English poems are being regularly undertaken in the class. We hope this will create an interest in the reading of English poems among students. Daily one new English word is given to the students with meaning, in order to increase their vocabulary.

Two of our B.Ed staff who registered themselves enrolled in Ph.D s degree in 2008 are going to submit their Ph.D thesis. One more has registered last year in the for getting the Ph.D degree Dravidian University, Kuppam, Andrapradesh.

We extend our sincere thanks to the management for providing everything we need for our academic growth and improvement.

We also thank the CEO, DEO of Namakkal and Salem for their continued support in training our students in government schools of Namakkal and Salem Districts.

Already 50% of the present of the students have attended the interview for the selection of teachers and are waiting for appointments. We are proud to say that 90% of alumnus had been appointed in government and private schools and a few, among them run their own schools.

With the blessings of the Almighty and the Blessing of mother Paavaiammal, the institution will grow to its heights and serve the society. We thank the members of the Pavai Varam Educational Trust for their unending efforts to make this institution great.
