The honourable members of the Paavai Varam Trust started a B.Ed., training college in 2004 for the benefit of rural women students, of Rasipuram and Namakkal District, in pursuit of their social commitment. Ever since that time, the Paavai College of Education, is providing service to the science and Arts graduate students, to become good teachers. The college marches towards development and 100% results every year with the support of the trust members, constant guidance of Chairman sir and Correspondent Madam. The Principal and staff members join hands with the management in this endeavour.
61 women and 24 men candidates are undergoing the B.Ed., course this year in Paavai College of Education. The students of the College of education carry out many activities both in theory and in practical aspects, in fulfillment of their curriculum. The academic year 2012-2013 started on 13th September 2012 and was inaugurated by the chairman sir. To mark the start of the academic year, the kuthuvilakku was lit by the correspondent madam. As a great gesture of respecting the parents, the B.Ed., students performed Padha Pooja to their parents at the inaugural function.
We are happy to mention a few programmes carried out by the B.Ed students.
The election of the office barrers for the academic year 2012-2013 of the B.Ed., college took place on 20th September 2012.
The students are divided into seven groups, called the tutorial group, for carrying out the curricular activities such as seminars, symposium, oratorical programmes and articles writing etc., and the co-curricular activities such as, carrying out decoration work and hall arrangements during meetings, organising meetings, writing charts and learning the art of making socially useful products like the Dolls, Greeting Cards, Envelops etc.,.
Daily two students are given the opportunity to give a talk for 5 minutes, in English or Tamil, on matters of general importance and on textual topics, soon after the Morning Prayer.
On 24th October 2012 Saraswathi pooja was celebrated with usual joy. The students drew the picture of Goddess Saraswathi in Rangoli. In that function the students’ chanted religious rhymes and 108 Namavalee while offering flowers and Nevaithyam to Goddess Saraswathi. As a special performance, the students arranged a Golu with dolls.
The All Subject Association was inaugurated on 07.11.2012. The chief guest of the function was Mrs. M. Sumathi, Asst.Prof. TKR Arts College for women, Gopichettipalayam. From then on, cultural programmes are held every week, in which each of the seven B.Ed students group is given a chance to perform cultural activities for one hour, on Wednesdays during the last two periods. The lecturer in charge of each group, guides the students in selection and execution of cultural activities.
On 24th November 2012 the Education day was celebrated. The chief guest of the function was Dr. Mrs. Kasturibai, Dean Faculty development of Paavai Institutions.
Our B.Ed., students were sent to nearly 27 Government high schools and higher secondary schools from 26th November for 40 days teaching practice to improve their teaching ability as required in the university syllabus. They have successfully completed their training with the Co-Operation of the guide teachers and Headmasters.
On 11th January 2013 the Youth festival on National Integration was celebrated at Paavai institutions in which about 100 schools participated from Salem and Namakkal districts. Nearly 2000 high school student enthusiastically took part in competitions like Oratorical, Essay, Singing, Drawing, Poem, Quiz, Rangoli. The chief guest was Mr. V. Kumar, CEO, Namakkal, and the first three winners in each competition were awarded the prizes. Certificate of participation was given to all the students.
As a part of the academic programme, the B.Ed students prepared and presented papers in seminars on topics assigned to them in their core and optional subjects under the guidance of the concerned subject lecturers.
On 8th March, B.Ed women students participated in the womens’ day celebrations at Paavai Institutions.
Achievement motivation seminar was conducted to B.Ed students in the class. The n’ach category theories were explained to students. Lectures were also given on various topics like Maslow’s Hierarchy theory the theories of Intelligence etc,. The students enthusiastically took part in it.
Special coaching in English
As a measure to improve the writing and speaking skill of the B.Ed students in English language, special coaching is given throughout the academic year.
Basic grammar and error free writing is taught to students. Word making game and introduction of English poems are regularly undertaken in the class. We hope this will create an interest in the reading of English poems in students. Daily one new English word with the meaning is given to the students, in order to increase their vocabulary in store.
Two of our B.Ed staff who have registered for Ph.D degree in 2008 are on the verge of submitting their Ph.D thesis, on topics related to education.
We, the staff, express our deep gratitude and thanks to the management, for providing every assistance and help we need, for our academic growth and improvement.
We also thank the CEO, DEO of Namakkal for their continued support in providing govt. schools to our students for teaching practice in Namakkal Districts.
The present set of students are preparing for the TET Exams getting appointment in government schools and a few are pondering over pursuing post graduate studies. About 95% of our past students have been appointed in government and private schools and a few, run their own schools.
The Pavai Educational Trust is concentrating on increasing the caliber of the Paavai College of Education student teachers with top class discipline. Accordingly the out going student teachers of Paavai prove to be excellent teachers and good human beings. Gods Blessings are always bestowed on this institution. This B.Ed College will grow more and serve the society. The combined efforts of the management, staff and students of this B.Ed College will surely take this college to its heights.
